The Golf R is powered by a 296bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 380 Nm of torque. Compared to the sixth generation Golf R, the new model packs extra 30bhp and 30 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the road via the latest fifth-generation Haldex 4MOTION four-wheel drive system, enabling the fastest Gold ever to hit 0-62 mph in 4.9 seconds when fitted with the optional six-speed DSG gearbox. Top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph. The combined fuel economy is expected to be 39.8 mpg (40.9 mpg for the DSG version) with the six-speed manual and and CO2 emissions at 159 g/km. New 4MOTION four-wheel drive system can transfer almost 100 per cent of power to the rear axle when needed.
